About Us
The Waikato Role Playing Guild became an incorporated society in July 2019, to support our mission in connecting roleplayers within the Waikato region.
Run by enthusiastic volunteers, the Guild organises events every month in Hamilton and the greater Waikato.
Membership is open to all, but you don't need to be a member to participate in our events.
Where Do I start?
If you’re new to the Waikato Role-Playing Guild (or to tabletop roleplaying in general), you’re in the right place. We get a lot of questions about how to join a game, so here’s the simple version: We don't directly place individual players into long-term campaigns. Instead, we provide short-term events, spaces, and an active community where you can try games to find what suits you and meet people to form long-term campaigns with.
Step 1: Join the community
Your best starting point is to join our Discord server.
Once you’re there:
- Check out the "Looking For Group" channels
- Post what you’re looking for (game, system, experience level, etc.)
- Or browse existing posts from GMs and groups with open seats
This is the fastest and most flexible way to find a game that fits you.
Step 2: Come to an event
We regularly run events across Hamilton and the wider Waikato. These are the best way to meet people face-to-face and find future group members. Check out our events page to see whats coming up!
Step 3: Build connections
Most long-term campaigns don’t start fully formed! They grow out of:
- People meeting at events
- Playing a few short games together
- Finding others you enjoy playing with
Come along to events and socials - Meet people and form your own group. If you’re unsure where to begin, a Guild Social or Intro to D&D session is the easiest entry point. Hope to see you at the table soon 🎲
